Blue Grouse Trail #722

The Blue Grouse Trail #722 contours below the south rim of the Grand Mesa through primarily aspen, oakbrush, snowberry, serviceberry, choakecherry and small meadows.  The trail serves as a connecting route between the Pipeline Road, FSR #110 and the Big Spruce Road, FSR #111 and is primarily used during big game hunting seasons. The trail crosses several branches of the Sand Creek drainage where slumping has caused some trail damage.  It can be difficult to follow in this section.

EASTERN ACCESS:
The Blue Grouse Eastern Trailhead is located off the end of FDR #111.  At the end of this road Ward Creek and the Orchard City Aqueduct descend off the rim of the Grand Mesa.  Because the Big Spruce Road is located on private land, public access to the Blue Grouse Eastern Trailhead is not permitted.  However this trailhead may be reached by travelling 4.9 miles from the western trailhead.

WESTERN ACCESS:
From Eckert, travel west 2 miles on Pipeline Road, N00, to its intersection with Trap Club Road,1950 Rd.  Stay on the right fork heading north on N00 Road for 2.1 miles to the intersection with the Oak Creek Road, 1975 Road/060. Travel approximately 5.3 miles on 1975 Rd. to its intersection with East Pipeline Road, 1600 Rd.  Turn right onto the East Pipeline Road and travel north approximately 4.5 miles to the Grand Mesa National Forest Boundary.  At this location, the East Pipeline Road becomes Pipeline Road, FSR #110.  Continue on FSR #110 from the forest boundary approximately 5.8 miles to the Blue Grouse Western Trailhead.
